When a woman walked into Les and Ashley's pawn shop, they were skeptical as can be. The young lady's grandmother had just passed away. She was hoping to score $50 to $100 for a lot of gems. She didn't want to part with them. Her grandmother had been showing them to her for a lifetime, and she wanted to keep them. However, times were tough. The granddaughter needed the money to pay for the funeral arrangements. Les wanted to do his best to help the woman out. She was in a tough spot. Ashley was convinced all of the gems were just glass costume jewelry.
But Les wasn't so sure. The pawn shop's gemologist was coming over to examine a few pieces; Les figured he'd give the woman his best efforts and show the expert her gems. As it turns out Ashley was right; she was mostly right, that is. All of the gems were cheap glass. However, one of them was a genuine ruby. It was a find like no other. The appraisal? A whopping $10,000! Needless to say, the woman who only wanted a few extra bucks was ecstatic!
"I don't know how to break this news. This bunch right here is glass. This right here, this is a Burmese ruby!" Ashley exclaims. There wasn't a dry eye in the room. Les was glad he could changed the woman's life.
