On most days, Kelly Gunderson's 87-year-old mother can't remember her own name, let alone her children.
One day, while Gunderson was visiting her mom at the hospital, she got so lucky, that you can only call it a miracle. While Gunderson laid down next to her mother, who suffers from severe memory loss due to her Alzheimer's, her mother is a bit confused about who she is and who her daughter is, but slowly that changes.
"Do you think I would lay here with just anybody," Kelly asks her mother. "I think you would have to love them," she replies. What happens next is incredible. Mama remembers Kelly's name and the two laugh together in disbelief, telling one another how much they love each other.
It's these rare moments that mean the world to Alzheimer's patients and their equally suffering families. What they say at the end put such a smile on my face. This truly is wonderful!
