They traveled the world together, adopted two boys together and were married for more than six decades. Their long-term marriage stood the test of time, right up until the moment they left this earth for greener pastures.
What makes this story even so touching is that Don and Maxine died within hours of each other. A couple weeks ago, Don broke his hip and his health was declining. Around the same time, Maxine's cancer was returning. The family knew the two couldn't be kept apart during this time, so they transferred Don and Maxine to a bedroom in their granddaughter's home, side-by-side.
