Geologists Grill Raw Steak Using Molten Lava

It’s summer, which means grilling season! Whether you’re a master chef at seasoning or an amateur with a spatula, there are recipes for every type of skill level. I, myself, am not very experienced when it comes to charring meat and vegetables on the grill, but that’s why this particular way of flaming up a steak might be my best bet when the family swings by.

Maybe.

A few professors got together for what they call the "Lava Project," a collaboration between Sculptor Bob Wysocki and Geologist Jeff Karson of Syracuse University. And, as I’m sure brainy teachers are wont to do on the regular, they decided to suit up before preparing steak for their guests. In a truly bizarre show of masterful cooking, they funnel molten lava down beneath the grill rack and proceed to light ‘em up. (Literally, the meat is on fire.)

You could probably try this technique with a specific kind of seasoning or maybe using an eggplant recipe instead, but I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have the heavy protective gear. It’s best if you and I were satisfied with watching professional scientists light their meat on fire in the most spectacularly complicated way possible.

I’m thinking the end result might need a little more pepper, though. What do you think?
