10 Totally Gross Things Everyone Does In Winter

Winter is a tough time for everyone, even those who consider it the best season of all.

Personally, I love winter. I look forward to the cold weather, the snow, and the holiday season all year long. When everyone is enjoying their beach days and the warm summer sun, I am ready to be bundled up in my favorite sweater, watching the snow fall outside my window.

But even though I enjoy winter, I know that the most lovely season of all has its downfalls. There are quite a few not-so-pretty things that happen in winter that simply do not happen during any other time of year, and it's something that us winter lovers have come to accept.

We all do things in secret that we don't want to admit in public, but the wintertime has its own set of grossness that we'd all prefer to keep to ourselves. These 10 things are among the worst of them. But maybe, just maybe, being aware of them can help us have our healthiest and cleanest year to date!

1. Wear The Same Cozy Sweater Over And Over Again

Because it's winter, you don't sweat through your clothes the moment you step outside as you do in the summertime. Due to this fact, it doesn't really feel like you need to wash your sweaters.

If you didn't spill pasta sauce all over it or if you didn't go on a five-mile run while wearing it, then what's the point of washing it? Well, that would be all of the oil and dead skin cells that collected over the days, weeks, and months.

2. Re-Use The Same Teacup A Few Too Many Times

Tea keeps you warm and cozy, and it's also good for you, right? So you keep drinking it night and day, all the while not taking the time to give your favorite mug a good washing.

Just because you can't see the germs doesn't mean they aren't there. Give it a scrub.

3. Turn Into A Lotion Blob

You fear that if you don't put on lotion at least four to five times a day, your skin will become so dry you'll just disappear into a pile of dust. So, you decide to be forever greasy, turning everything you touch into a slimy mess.

Using too much lotion is a gross habit, but if you don't use any at all, you run the risk of having the next problem.

4. Shed Dry Skin Literally Everywhere

Your skin turns so dry in the cold that it seems like every move you make leaves a little smattering of dead skin flakes in your trail. It's gross, it's embarrassing, and it's itchy as all heck.

5. Re-Use Dirty Tissues

If you're on the go and your nose is runny, you use what you can, and oftentimes that's the same tissue you keep shoving back into your pocket over and over again.

This is certainly an unsanitary — and unappealing — practice. Keep plenty of spare tissues handy.

6. Use Fuzzy Hats Instead Of Shampoo

What a convenient accessory the winter hat is: It's so good at covering up greasy, unwashed hair in a pinch. It's also so warm that you might not want to take it off, leaving your hair unwashed when it really, really needs it.

Remember, your hair gets just as gross in the winter as it does the rest of the year, if not more so. It needs your regular attention.

7. Stay In Bed Instead Of Brushing

I know for a fact that at least 70 percent of us have crawled into bed on a cold night and refused to get out from underneath the covers to wash our faces or brush our pearly whites. I am certainly not alone on this one!

However, cold weather is no excuse for bad hygiene.

8. Accept Boogers And Phlegm As A Way Of Life

Snot. It's everywhere. It's on your sweatshirt sleeves. It's on your pillowcase. It's on your shower wall. It's on your towels. You're never not sick, which is why snot is simply a way of life now. You've accepted this rather than trying to keep it at bay. You lost, but don't worry, we all lose in the winter.

Just make sure to keep up with the laundry before things get too crazy.

9. Eat Until It Hurts

It's too cold to exercise, so what do you do instead? You feast on all of those yummy treats that are left over from the holidays. Now, a snack or two is one thing — but gorging until you want to explode? This may make you feel grosser than anything else on this list!

Remember, pace yourself. It's not a cookie sprint, it's a cookie marathon.

10. Snuggle Up With Someone Who Has A Cold

If your husband, wife, girlfriend, or boyfriend has a cold, it's hard to not give them a kiss every now and then. It may not be the best idea, but who can resist loved ones?

Just be ready to join them in all their yucky, sick glory.
