When the zookeepers at Nagasaki Bio Park got tired of moving a large number of adorable guinea pigs from one enclosure to another, they came up with a genius solution. They created a bridge to make the rodents self-sufficient. The guinea pigs can now cross over from the place where they eat to where they sleep.
Not only is the bridge a great idea for the handlers, it also provides hours of entertainment for visitors. I could watch these rodents all day long! Commuting doesn't get much cuter than this.
Knowing that ordinary people can build extraordinary devices for animals truly restores my faith in humanity. After this video was posted online, composer Parry Gripp wrote a funny jingle to go with it.
"When I saw the guinea pig bridge video from Nagasaki Bio Park, I thought that it would work well with the feel of the song. Guinea pigs are almost always funny, and when they are crossing a bridge they are hysterical," he told HLN.
He couldn't be more right. Growing up, I had two guinea pigs (Bubba and Mr. Hobbs), and they loved spending time outside their cage, exploring new environments or cuddling in my lap. They're so small and gentle, but they pack a whole lot of personality — just like the guinea pigs in this video.
Enjoy! And please SHARE this video with everyone you know.
