Here at LittleThings, we've covered our share of teen girls wearing "inappropriate" outfits.
Too often, high school girls (and even elementary and middle school girls) are shamed for what they're wearing. Teachers and school administrators are constantly telling female students that their clothes are too revealing, even though they're usually wearing totally normal outfits.
Recently, stories like this one have made the news, because parents and friends have decided to fight back against unreasonable detentions, suspensions, and expulsions.
In early November 2017, Hailey Brown went to school wearing a casual yellow sweatshirt and a pair of skinny jeans.
Hailey was stunned when she was given after-school detention for "excessive midriff" and cleavage.
Her friend, Emily LaCerra, was baffled. Hailey wasn't showing her stomach or any cleavage whatsoever! Emily posted a picture of Hailey's outfit online, arguing that the school was being ridiculous for giving her detention.
What do you think of Hailey's clothes?

After Hailey was given detention, Emily posted two photos of her friend on Twitter.

@itsleeeeeee has an after school detention for “excessive midriff” in this outfit. It’s almost like we didn’t have a meeting with @LTHSPrincipal to change the issue of girls constantly being shamed & taken out of class for their normal outfits?
It's true that you can see a tiny bit of Hailey's midriff just beneath her shirt, but there's no way anyone could classify that as "excessive."
And as for cleavage? The triangle cutout in Hailey's shirt barely even hits beneath her neck!
From behind, Hailey's outfit is even less revealing.
Her sweatshirt definitely doesn't show any skin in the back.
People who saw Emily's post were astounded.
Many people replied that Hailey's outfit seemed totally normal and shouldn't have gotten her detention.
"It's so wrong that the school gave you the punishment for having normal clothes on you… you weren't in a bikini for crying out…," wrote one man.
One woman wrote, "Why, in all of history, has the amount of clothing it is appropriate or moral for a woman to wear been solely dictated by men? Why?"
One guy wrote, "In all honesty, I am embarrassed as an alum… As far as sexualizing girls in outfits that aren't in the slightest provocative, punish the perverted guys that are looking for it… Hailey, you don't deserve this, and I stand with you entirely."
"I see no cleavage or midriff," another woman wrote.
Do you think the dress code at this school needs to be changed?
