This Abandoned Building Was Once A Psych Ward. What’s Left Now Will Give You CHILLS!

From the Amityville Horror house to Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island, NY is rumored to contain several haunted locations. Yet, Kings Park Psychiatric Center is one in particular that gives some locals the chills.

Founded in the late 1800s, the psychiatric ward was one of four found on Long Island. At one time, it housed more than 9,000 patients taken from New York City and isolated them in what became a self-sufficient community, according to Vocativ.

The ward was one of the first establishments to perform electroshock therapy and the lobotomy, which was once a common surgery that involved slicing fibers in the brain.

Although it shut down in 1996, Kings Park Psychiatric Center still stands with reminders of those who once lived there. Walls are covered in murals, presumably painted by now deceased patients, and the beds they once slept in just sit in disrepair.

What's even creepier is the ghost tales shared by local residents. For example, Laura Leita — who explores the paranormal with her husband John and documents it on their website Long Island Oddities — appeared on Blogtalkradio.com in 2011 and spoke of seeing a ghostlike form on a wall. She also recalled her friend’s experience of seeing a white figure with bloodshot eyes.

While the eerie stories of Kings Parks are all hearsay, photos of the ward are just as spooky.

And while these are just rumors, they make the ward's eerie appearance much scarier.
