Dutch designer Daan Roosegaarde has succeeded in combining the past and the present in a truly magical way.
People are always inventing new and cool things, from eco-conscious water crafts that look like something straight out of James Bond, to a little device that lets women pee standing up like men (yes, really). But Roosegaarde has gone above and beyond inventing something new – he's created a work of art.
The "Van Gogh-Roosegaarde cycle path," which runs 600 meters through a town in the Netherlands were Vincent van Gogh lived, uses thousands of solar-powered stones, arranged in such a way to be reminiscent of his famous Starry Night painting.
"I wanted to create a place that people will experience in a special way, the technical combined with experience," says Roosegaarde, who has finally given bicyclists a safer way to get around after the sun goes down.
This is such a beautiful invention, and could actually be the wave of the future!

The path was designed to invoke the famous van Gogh painting "Starry Night."

Cyclists in the Netherlands finally have a safer way to get around by bike once the sun goes down.

The stones have been embedded with technology that allows them to soak up the sun during the day, and glow at night.
