Hero Garbage Collector Saves 1-Year-Old Boy From Drowning

On the outside, Andy Perez is just a regular guy working as a garbage truck driver at Waste Pro in Miramar, FL. But recently, Andy became a bona fide superhero for the most incredible reason. When he was on his route one morning, Andy heard the sounds of screaming children outside a home. A little boy approached him and asked him if knew CPR because an infant was drowning in the pool.

That's when Andy sprung into action. Without hesitation, he ran into the house to find a one-year-old boy without a pulse. According to CBS, he was "breathing into the child’s lungs, giving chest compression and pumping lots of water from the boy, being careful to keep the child’s head to the side to prevent him from choking on the water as it was being expelled." Andy performed CPR until rescue crews arrived. Thankfully, paramedics were able to restore the boy's pulse before arriving at the hospital.

Though the boy is currently in critical condition, he's alive — all thanks to one very heroic garbage truck driver. With three children and a granddaughter of his own, Andy says he simply treated the little boy as if he were his own.
