12 Haunting, But Beautiful Historic Photos Of The ‘Titanic’

The tragic story of the Titanic is known all over the world. The supposedly unsinkable ship hit an iceberg on the night of April 14, 1912, causing 1,503 people to lose their lives. Its remains are currently found at the bottom of the ocean, and when you see pictures of all the rusted wreckage, it's hard to believe that it was once a luxurious ship with so many happy people onboard.

James Cameron's record-setting movie about the ship brought history, romance, and drama together, but the real photos of the ship are just as impressive. These fascinating images give us a glimpse into what people like Jack and Rose might have really experienced on the famous vessel, including the wide variety of food that was served on the ship.

In an attempt to recreate the beauty and elegance of the Titanic (but with a happier ending), the Titanic II will set sail in 2018, allowing a new generation to experience all the incredible features of the ship that passengers enjoyed over a hundred years ago. But no matter how stunning the new ship may be, nothing will ever compare to the awe that passengers on the original boat felt as they experienced such an amazing vessel for the first time.

Take a look at these photos from the original Titanic, and don't be surprised if you feel both chilled and amazed. It's horrible to think about what happened to so many people on that ship, but their memory lives on in the original images of the boat that carried them over the sea.
