She Does Her Laundry…Out Of A Van? When You See Why You’ll Be Floored

Two young men have launched an incredible charity to help the homeless. 21-year-old engineering student Lucas Patchett and his friend Nicholas Marchesi have turned an old van into into a mobile laundromat The catch? It's a service providing homeless people with access to free washing and drying facilities and is run solely by volunteers.

Orange Sky Laundry is Australia’s first mobile laundry service. The pair revamped the old van and installed two donated washers and dryers, which allows them to wash about 44 pounds of laundry every hour. An estimated 300 people live on the streets and are homeless in Brisbane.

According to 7 News Brisbane, the co-founders hope to achieve three things: restore respect, raise health standards and reduce strain on resources — and so far the response has been good.

"I feel fresh!" a homeless woman told the news station after getting her clothes washed.

The program is a pilot project, but if it is successful, they plan to launch a fleet of larger vans with 6 washers and 6 dryers servicing locations around Australia by the end of 2015. Find more information about the project and how you can get involved here.
