Instead Of Taking Breaks, This Janitor Plays Piano For Sick Patients. Amazing.

While most people use their work breaks to make a phone call, grab a snack or get some fresh air, a Rockford, Illinois man chooses to not take the time for himself, but give back to others instead.

Rolando Maaba works at Rockford Health Systems, a hospital, as an environmental services worker who takes daily breaks from his custodial work to bring joy to the sick patients, their worried families and the hospital's hardworking staff. For about 15 minutes each day, Maaba transforms from janitor to the hospital's very own piano man, entertaining people with songs he knows by ear.

Maaba says he sticks to upbeat tunes, knowing that his audience needs a reason to smile. "I want to be helping guests who are waiting for their relatives after an emergency or a surgery and they’re worried," the 55-year-old pianist told ABC News. "When I play, they forget all their worries." Making the hospital guests feel a little better about their struggles has been emotionally uplifting for Maaba as well, who says he hopes to continue playing at the hospital for as long as he's alive.
