Customers at a New York business couldn’t stop taking pictures of a lobster that weighed a whopping 23 pounds. While it’s normal to find such a massive lobster in the depths of the ocean, it’s not often that a fisherman catches one.
Last week, Jordan Lobster Farms on Long Island brought in the crustacean believed to be 95 years old because of its size. Jordan Lobster Farms often sells large lobsters weighing up to 10 pounds, but this one was certainly a first.
"We received it yesterday morning from one of our fishermen, John Price, who's in the Bay of Fundy. He shipped it in, he didn't even tell us. He said 'look in the crate.' We opened it up and we were like 'whoa!' " restaurant owner Stephen Jordan told CBS News last week.
Like the “panda lamb” born at the Staten Island Zoo in April and the handsome gorilla living in Japan’s Higashiyama Zoo, the large lobster attracted many intrigued local residents. And because of the lobster’s uniqueness, Jordan is going to donate it to the Long Island Aquarium that way more people can enjoy it.
"It's almost like a dinosaur,” Jordan said. “You'd like to see it continue on and I think they would take good care of it.”
