Juicy, refreshing and sweet, watermelons are my most favorite fruit of all. And now, a Japanese man named Mr. Kimura has been credited with the unthinkable: successfully growing the world's first heart-shaped watermelon. How cool!
Kimura worked for many years growing standard round watermelons but his curiosity was piqued after a neighbor mentioned it would be interesting to see a watermelon shaped like a heart. From that point on, Kimura saw it as a challenge. He immediately began researching how and if it could be done.
Kimura didn't only focus on the appearance, it had to taste good, too. Countless hours of reading helped him learn the differing methods of cultivation along with the best soil conditions, moisture levels and atmospheric temperatures.nAfter years of research in addition to trial and error, Kimura finally succeeded. Today, the heart melons are a reality.
They are said to have a crunchy consistency with perfectly sweet juices. When asked about the driving force behind his determination for the heart shaped watermelons, Kimura simply stated "I want my customers to eat something delicious."
