I usually close my eyes or look away — heck, even leave the room — when National Wildlife is on, teasing at a scene where an animal is going to be killed. I just can't watch!
That's why this video had me worried at first. Crocodiles are intimidating predators, and when I think of hippos I don't see them as being higher up on the food chain… but you learn something new every day.
It turns out crocs are so "cool" with hippos that these two incredibly different species can intermingle like it's no big deal at all.
Here, we meet a curious baby hippo (who is adorable, by the way) say hello to a big 'ol crocodile. He chews at his back, he nudges him and he even licks him — and the crocodile couldn't care less.
The reason these two can hang out is because hippos are vegetarians, so there's no threat to steal the croc's food. Also, the hippos are more powerful than crocs, which I never knew before!
