Now that we're seeing the new coronavirus spreading far and wide across the US and across the globe, plenty of our favorite celebrities are, unfortunately, going to be testing positive for the virus. The latest one to confirm a diagnosis is Idris Elba, who just announced that he has tested positive for the new coronavirus.
The actor, 47, made the announcement on Monday via Twitter. He said he did not have any symptoms and decided to get tested after coming in contact with someone else who had also tested positive for COVID-19.
“I didn’t have any symptoms,” he said in a video that he posted on Twitter. “I got tested because I had realized I got exposed to someone who had also tested positive." He continued, "I found out last Friday that they were tested positive, I quarantined myself and got a test immediately and got results back today.”
Idris also said that “it sucks” but he’s “doing OK” at home with his wife Sabrina Dhowre, who he said has not yet been tested. He added, "This is serious. Now is the time to really think about social distancing, washing your hands. Beyond that there are people out there who aren't showing symptoms and can easily spread it."
While it can definitely be tough to self-quarantine, Idris urged fans and followers to exercise caution.
