If you're anything like me, then you're constantly looking for ways to create more space in your home without adding to the muss, fuss or clutter. IKEA is a popular home-furnishing store known for its ready-to-assemble furniture. One dad has recently taken the internet by storm with his clever space-saving hack using ordinary IKEA cabinets.
Here, Chris shows you how to turn seven white kitchen cabinets into a platform bed with plenty of storage underneath. The assembly takes about six hours and costs less than $500. This is a perfect DIY project for anyone on a tighter budget but looking to consolidate space in a clean, modern way. The end result is a sleek creation that blends seamlessly into the home.
You can do this project with any brand or style, as long as you use wall cabinets. Chris used IKEA's SEKTION wall cabinets, the cheapest doors (Häggeby white), and a TUTEMO open cabinet laid on its side for the smallest step. "The bed has been tested with three full-size adults and two dogs, so I'm not worried about weight capacity," he says. "The 'steps' are very strong and do not sag under my weight."
