When Imani the gorilla gave birth to her baby girl at the San Diego Zoo, no one was sure the little gorilla was going to make it. Not only was she born via emergency c-section, but the sweet baby was also treated for pneumonia and respiratory problems at a nearby vet hospital. In order to make sure the baby stayed safe, and alive, she stayed away from her mother and was kept under the watchful eye of zoo professionals until she was nursed back to health.
When the time was right, zoo officials brought the baby into Imani's bedroom (which was linked up to TV monitors) so the two could finally be together. The moment Imani sees her little girl it brought tears to my eyes. Watching her touch her baby and then nurse for the first time was simply beautiful.
Today, the two are inseparable at the zoo and the baby, now known as Joann, is 4-months-old!
