The process of carving coconut shells is not complicated, but it does require a great deal of practice and skill. In this video, a man on the streets of Melaka, Malaysia showed off his cutlery skills, and there's no denying he is pretty incredible at coconut carving.
The coconut we buy in stores does not resemble the coconut growing on a coconut tree. An untouched coconut has three layers, and when you buy a coconut at the supermarket the two outer layers (the exocarp and the mesocarp) are already removed — yet this guy removes all layers in style!
This man proves that there is a true art to cutting a coconut — and makes it look so easy! In less than 90 seconds, the vendor separates the coconut meat from the shell in record time with his machete — leaving only the edible coconut meat and water. It's truly an incredible fete to watch!
