Artist Spends 12 Hours Transforming Herself Into ‘Twisted’ Optical Illusions — Using Only Paint

As someone who has no artistic ability whatsoever, I'm always impressed when talented artists show off their amazing skills.

Seriously — I can't paint, draw, sketch, color, or anything. Heck, I even have a hard time drawing a proper circle sometimes!

That's why it's so jaw-dropping to see what Ines Kuš is able to do with a set of brushes and a kit of paints. The Croatian artist has recently gone viral, after sharing a few of her incredible "twisted illusions."

Ines uses face paint on her face and body to create different styles that make her look like she is all "twisted" or tied up with various contraptions.

By using herself as a canvas and manipulating the lighting around her, Ines is able to create some astounding visual effects that are spooky, scary, beautiful, and everything in between.

Ines is from Zagreb, Croatia.

As she explains on BoredPanda, she has had an innate desire to create art throughout her entire life.

"I had a need to express creativity in different forms of art, such as photography, fashion design, and drawing. But in face paint, I found the most joy and fulfillment."

Ines' mesmerizing illusions are inspired by her environment and her emotional state in any given moment.

The artist is most interested in face paint, specifically, because it is a temporary form of art by necessity.

"[It] only lasts until you wash it off, so it is [a] kinda 'fragile' art form. Also it is very challenging to paint on bumpy canvas such as human face."

Ines took art classes in college. She says she is a "big fan of conceptual and surreal art form[s]" and that she'll likely work in those forms in the future.

But for now, Ines is impressing the internet with her complex and intricate face-painting skills. So far, she's attracted over 53,200 followers on Instagram.

"I got into [it] by accident, actually. On Halloween night in 2016, I was about to attend a costume party, so I wanted to paint my face," the artist told PopSugar.

Ines calls this her series of "Tied Up" illusion (or "twisted illusion") makeup.

The face painter's goal is to draw the public's attention with illusion tricks as well as looks that are provocative and a touch bizarre.

Sometimes, it takes Ines up to 12 hours to finish painting some of her most complicated and detailed illusions.

I can't imagine how long this "sliced up" illusion must have taken her!

It's truly incredible that Ines can create all of these almost cartoon-like personas without the help of Photoshop or even special-effects prosthetics.

She's got some serious painting skills!
