Recovering from giving birth is not for the faint of heart. There are hormones, changes in your body, and a tiny human to take care of. Many mothers turn to fitness routines to help themselves feel better physically and mentally. This was the case for one Australian influencer, who recently posted her results on social media.
Ruby Tuesday Matthews welcomed her daughter Holiday to the world on September 20, 2022, and began an eight-week workout challenge with the OK from her doctor. On January 15, 2023, she posted pictures of her results, but some in the comments accused her of Photoshopping the pictures. Ruby denies this and wishes people would be kinder.
“I’ve been very apprehensive in sharing my results from my eight week challenge because for me it really wasn’t about the physical transformation and I don’t want new mothers to feel pressure to bounce back or look a certain way. I suffered so badly with depression and anxiety during this pregnancy,” Ruby’s original post starts out.
“I literally showed up every day of this transformation. I held myself accountable and I have never felt stronger or more focused ! Once I was cleared by my OB I started transform one ! I’m not going to share the KG I lost because it’s more about how I feel rather than a number,” she continued. It is clear she found a workout routine that works for her.
She went on to give her followers information about her fitness routine with FitazFK. This included a discount code, which often means that an influencer might receive a commission from each sale they generate. In the comments, some followers were skeptical about her results.
“The door girl your busted you photo shopped the first image which is crazy and that ain’t no towel,” one user wrote.
Many others agreed and pointed out that in Ruby's before picture the door behind her hips appeared warped and curved out. This is often a sign that a picture has been tampered with. Some users believed she made her before picture appear bigger in order to make the after seem more impressive.
Ruby responded to the comments in her Instagram stories. "There are towels that hang behind my door 24/7. It's a white towel. Whatever, I'm not even going to explain myself, because the funniest part is, they don't think I've Photoshopped the thinner image of myself, they think I've tried to make myself bigger," she stated.
She went on to ask her followers, "Do you know the guts it takes to post a before and after picture when you're the heaviest you've ever been, right after you've had a baby?" She then shared a collage of images from the same time period.
"To all you horrible women trying to take away what I achieved and say have photoshopped an image when I've been the most vulnerable I've ever been with sharing images of myself after having a baby. [expletive] you…," she concluded.
The co-owner of FitazFK, Aaron Fitaz Mcallister, also spoke out for Ruby and her hard work.
"This is super, super disappointing that someone who has put their hard yards in, who has done the work, has to do that and then to have that turned against them as if they edit their photo. I just want to urge all the women out there to support each other no matter what shape or how they look, etc. I really hope that this can be a sign that we need more love and less criticism in the world,” he stated.
FitazFK also issued a statement to Insider about the situation: "As a brand that strives to empower women no matter what, we would never condone the editing of any of our ambassadors transformation photos. We support all of our ambassadors in their transformation journey, and we urge the public to understand that everyone is different, and everyone's body reacts differently to exercise and nutrition.”
