Morning commutes can be tedious and boring. Driving back and forth to the same location, taking the same route every day, we can tend to zone out. If you take a subway, train, or bus to get to work each day, the stress of catching the one you need and then finding a seat for the long ride can be frustrating and discouraging. If you ride a bike on your daily commute, there are bound to be days that you might just be too exhausted to move your legs as quickly as you might need to.
We've seen a few (extremely rare) events that can cheer up your daily commute and make life a little more interesting and better, like when the comedy group Improv Everywhere surprised subway riders with a free pizza delivery for everyone on board, or when one very generous man gave a woman enough money to cover all of the flowers she was selling and told her to give them to people on the train. Still, most daily commutes are pretty lackluster.
Commissioned by the Market Street Prototyping Festival in San Francisco, CA in April 2015, this interactive bench makes everyday commutes that much better for the people living in the city, by encouraging a playful interaction between strangers as they take a minute for themselves during their busy day, or wait for the bus to take them to and from work.
Young and old, everyone seems to get a kick out of the artwork/furniture, and it definitely puts a smile on everyone's face who gives it a try!
