Authorities Reopen 30-Year-Old Case Of Missing ‘Italian Madeleine’ After Reported Sighting

Three-year-old Angela Celentano was with her family in Naples, Italy, in August 1996, when she seemingly disappeared into thin air. Her family has never given up hope that they would find her in the years that have followed.

Italian authorities have reopened the investigation into Angela's disappearance after receiving a tip that she is living in Turkey with a man that she believes is her father. This latest sighting comes weeks after a DNA test conducted on a girl in Argentina failed to match Angela's parents.

Authorities are currently pursuing a lead that indicates Angela is living in Buyukada, which is close to Istanbul. A woman named Vincenza Trentinella told police that she received the tip from a priest as he died, and that the priest received this information in confession.

Vincenza Trentinella also told police that she went to Turkey to meet the woman who could be Angela Celentano.

A number of women have come forward in the intervening years and claimed to be Angela. None of the DNA tests have been a match.

In October 2022, a woman in South America believed she might be Angela. The woman had a resemblance to Angela, down to a birthmark both share on their backs, and even Angela's family believed that she could be their missing daughter.

The disappointing news was announced by the family's lawyer, Luigi Ferrandino, who explained, "Unfortunately, in the comparison between the DNA of the Celentanos and that of the young woman under consideration, there is no genetic match."

Angela's father Catello Celentano also commented. He said, "We will continue our research and any other report worthy of further investigation will be investigated. We don't stop hoping to be able to hug our beloved daughter again. For the moment, we believe we will remain silent and ask for respect."

A number of alleged sightings have been reported throughout the Americas over the years. These have come from different countries including Mexico, Venezuela, and also in other parts of the world, including South Africa.
