A woman in California has been arrested after being accused of slowly poisoning her husband with Drano. On August 9, 2022, police in Irvine, California, arrested Dr. Yue "Emily" Yu and booked her at Orange County Jail.
A release issued by the police explained, "Just after 6 p.m., Irvine Police Detectives interviewed the suspect, 45-year-old Yue Yu, and served a search warrant at the home she shares with the victim. Yu was arrested for poisoning her husband and booked at Orange County Jail."
Yu and Chen have been married for 10 years. Chen told authorities that he had been ill for weeks and began to suspect that Yu was slowly poisoning him.
Yu is a dermatologist at Mission Heritage Medical Group.
Chen told police that he initially noticed a slight chemical taste in his lemonade and visited the doctor. He was diagnosed with two stomach ulcers, gastritis, and esophagitis.
Chen set up a hidden camera and caught his wife pouring Drano into his drink more than once. He has since accused of her of "yelling, insulting, verbally abusing, hitting, pushing, pulling, and being emotionally abusive" to their children as well.
Yu's attorney is arguing all allegations are false. Her legal team's statement reads, in part, "We are very concerned that these false allegations are being used by her husband to gain an advantage in the divorce case against her that he has recently filed."
