Jameela Jamil Is Not Done Fighting Back Against Harmful Diet Ads Targeting Kids

Jameela Jamil is known for being a fierce advocate for body positivity. She unapologetically talks bodies, encouraging all of us to take up space, pretty much all the time. And we love her for it. But self -love can be tough for a lot of us, and Jameela totally relates. That's what makes her so special.

She's been through the struggles with self-love, issues with eating, injuries, and plenty of other challenges with her own body. She knows it's not always an easy journey, and that's why she works so hard to combat all of the stigma surrounding bodies.

Through her advocacy, both on social media and in the work she does out there in the real world, she's constantly pushing through barriers. She calls out celebrities who represent diet companies and trolls who want to put her down, and she's worked incredibly hard to keep harmful advertising campaigns away from young girls.

Through her bold approach, we all can't help but feel a little inspired to love ourselves just a little bit more. The Good Place star really knows what it means to struggle with self-love, but she never stops pushing forward and cheering us all on in the process.

Jameela Jamil made a recent appearance on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah where, as anticipated, she talked bodies. But Jameela came out strong about toxic diet culture and the companies putting out products that are harmful and marketing them toward young girls.

Jameela, who took those products herself when she was young, recently got Facebook and Instagram to change their policies in terms of which ads they show to young girls. She's not finished yet, though. She says she's going to keep fighting this kind of marketing and even seek out legislation that prohibits it.

In the same interview, Jameela also talked about the body positivity movement, which she often gets tons of credit for promoting. However, she said, she believes in "body neutrality" instead. “I believe in just not thinking about your body, and I have the luxury of being able to do that because I’m not being constantly persecuted for my size,” she explained, according to People, adding that it’s also the only way for her to manage her body dysmorphia.

Jameela was just honored at the second annual Girl Up #GirlHero Awards in Beverly Hills on October 13. She was awarded for all of her activism in the vein of body positivity. Honestly, who better to be awarded than someone who cares so much about how young girls are impacted by the harmful messages about their appearance?

Jameela does plenty of activism out in the world, but one of the ways she's constantly putting her ideas out there is through her social media platforms. She's a conversation starter, and it goes a long way, like when she puts her critics' harsh words out there for us to see. Calling out trolls on social, especially ones who are vehemently anti-woman or body shamers, is something Jameela does pretty well.

When it comes to celebrities promoting diet products that can be harmful, Jameela just doesn't have time for that. She famously called out Khloé Kardashian for posting a picture of her trim belly and crediting meal replacement shakes.

“If you’re too irresponsible to a) own up to the fact that you have a personal trainer, nutritionist, probable chef and a surgeon to achieve your aesthetic, rather than this laxative product … and b) tell them the side effects of this non-FDA-approved product, that most doctors are saying [isn’t] healthy … then I guess I have to,” Jameela fiercely commented.

While many celebrities are busy posting diet products, Jameela is pretty interested in promoting, well, eating! She can always been seen making great food shares, like this giant pizza. Because eating is just as important as self-acceptance and self-love.

Jameela really doesn't care what anyone thinks about her body. She always wants everyone to know that real bodies have cellulite, dippings, wrinkles, fat rolls, and more! And she totally doesn't mind sharing that with her followers like she routinely does on Instagram. Boom!

If there's anything Jameela hates, it's when companies target kids with their weight loss ads, programs, contraptions, and products! When Weight Watchers announced it was making a new app that targets kids as young as 8, Jameela was quick to call the company out, saying it was "encouraging children to learn calories and ‘success’ and ‘failure’ in weight loss, and monitor themselves in numbers that they are too young to ingest responsibly."

While Jameela clearly loves social media, she doesn't always love what social media shows to young people. That's why she always shows us the real, unfiltered version of herself on her social media. Peas, please?

Jameela is constantly working hard to break down barriers for other women and to be more inclusive and accepting. It's clear people are starting to listen to what she has to say. So it makes sense that she was also honored with being one of Time's 25 Most Influential People on the Internet. It's absolutely an honor well earned.
