Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is issuing a total recall of all ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, and ice cream sandwiches, as well as closing all of their stores temporarily because of the risk of possible contamination from Listeria.
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in younger children, or anyone with weakened immune systems. Even healthy individuals infected by Listeria may suffer short-term symptoms, such as high fever, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, or diarrhea. Infected pregnant women can suffer miscarriages or stillbirths.
The contamination was discovered in a sample chosen at random by the Nebraska Department of Agriculture. Though Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams is not aware of any illness reports caused by infected products, from an abundance of caution, they are voluntarily pulling some of their at-risk products to ensure the safety of all consumers.
Please check your freezers to ensure that you aren't at risk! While this situation is startling, it's best to calmly make sure this is not in your house.
So please, if you or anyone you know might possibly be at risk of coming into contact with this contaminant, please throw away any ice creams, frozen yogurts, sorbets, or ice cream sandwiches. This disease is not something that anyone should risk messing with, so please check your freezers and make sure to let all your friends and family members know as well!

Listeria can be found in some raw milk or foods made from raw milk.

It can also even live in food processing plants.

Unlike other germs, it can continue to grow in the cold temperatures of a fridge!

Listeria can only be killed by cooking and pasteurization. So if you find it in your fridge, get rid of it fast!
