The teachings of Jesus Christ were completely unheard of during his life. When He came onto the scene, some of the things He was saying to the established powers, whether it be Roman or the Jewish leadership, were considered to be utterly insane and needlessly inflammatory.
What Jesus Christ did and said was so shocking that it echoed throughout time and resulted in the world's most powerful and meaningful of religions:
This beautifully acted and divinely emotional scene from the epic miniseries The Bible will bring tears to your eyes. I found myself covered in goosebumps as Matthew lowers his eyes in shame and Jesus gives his famous Parable of the Tax Collector from Luke 18:
“Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.”
“But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God.”
“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
It’s incredible to think that such statements enraged the Jewish leaders of the time; to love one another, and to turn the other cheek. But all we can do is thank Him for His sacrifice, and for His love!
This powerful video really made me sit back and think. The importance of staying humble, and staying grounded can easily be forgotten in this crazy world. But if you keep to His teachings, you’ll never stray. When Jesus Christ offers you his hand, you take it.
