Back in 1963, a college freshman exchanged Christmas gifts with his roommate. The book, titled "The History of Magic," is unique in itself, and even in the current condition, it's worth over $100. But when they turned the page and looked at the inscription and famous signature scrawled inside, my jaw hit the floor.
The amiable owner of the book smiled to the camera as he spoke of his former iconic roommate: "I was living in a rooming house, and this other guy was there and we got to be friends… The next summer he left for California."
It turns out that the roommate would go on to become an iconic rock star, though he wasn't very interested in music back in his college days. In fact, people assumed that he was possibly going to become an actor. A lot of classic rock songs certainly never would have existed if he made the choice to perform on the silver screen instead. Maybe he would even still be alive today!
When watching the video, it's worth noting that the sticker on the inside cover is from the Alexandria Library. If the famous owner of this book borrowed it from their library in 1963, that would make the book over 50 years past its due date! How much do you think the library should charge in the library's late fees?
What do you think about this amazing piece of popular history? Do you think it should be worth more or less than what they appraised it at? Which one of their songs is your favorite!
And please SHARE this cool little piece of history with all of your classic rock-loving friends!
