Joan Rivers’ First TV Appearance On ‘Ed Sullivan’ Is Just As Hysterical, 50 Years Later.

The entertainment world has suffered a devastating loss in the passing of iconic comedienne Joan Rivers. During a throat procedure in New York on August 28th, 81-year-old Joan stopped breathing. One week later, Joan's only child, Melissa pronounced she had peacefully passed away.

Melissa wrote in a statement "My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon." Joan was known as the "Queen of Barbed One-liners" and if there was anything she was great at, it was making people laugh with her brutally honesty and quick wit.

Joan first came onto the comedy scene in the early 1960's in New York City's Greenwich Village. From there, she got her big break as a guest on Johnny Carson's Tonight Show and doing stand up like in the video below from 1967. She was tough as nails and never stopped making people laugh, as she kept working until the very end. Although everyone's favorite smack-talker is no longer with us, she will never be forgotten, thanks to all the amazing footage we have of Joan cracking us up for the past 50 years.

Here's a very special look back at Joan's first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show from April 23rd, 1967. In this hysterical clip, Joan talks about what it's like being a young unmarried woman versus being a bachelor. The best part is that 47 years later, I still hear women saying the same exact things!

You can't compare Joan to anyone, she was truly one-of-a-kind. Rest In Peace, Joan!
