Vice President Joe Biden Changed A Boy’s Life With This Handwritten Letter

During an eighth-grade school trip from Delaware to Washington, D.C. in 1994, Branden “Skip” Brooks and his class had the opportunity to have a Q&A with Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden, who was the Delaware senator at the time, noticed that Brooks had a stutter. The Vice President knew the struggle firsthand, since he too had the same problem growing up.

Like the teacher who wrote a letter to her students encouraging them to never give up, Biden pulled the boy the side and shared a similar sentiment.

A week later, he also sent Brooks a handwritten letter. The now attorney shared it on Twitter on July 1 writing that it still “inspires” him.

Dear Brandon—

It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday. You are a fine, bright young man with a great future ahead of you if you continue to work hard.

Remember what I told you about stuttering. You can beat it just like I did. When you do, you will be a stronger man for having won. Also remember, every time you are tempted to make fun of someone with a problem, how it feels when you are made fun of. Treat everyone with respect and you will be respected yourself.

Your friend,
Joe Biden.

Brooks also revealed that the politician’s words did influence his life. He shared a photo with Biden’s late son, Beau Biden, along with the caption, “Took your advice to heart and years later Beau swore me in as a prosecutor.”
