Shortly after he arrived home from a tour in Afghanistan, Sgt. Joey Johnson met Michelle at a country music concert. The two fell deeply in love. But tragically, four months later, Joey got into a motorcycle accident that severed his spinal cord and left him unable to walk again.
Michelle stood by Joey's side as he learned to adjust to life in a wheelchair. He eventually proposed, and she said yes — and Joey wanted to give her the surprise of a lifetime. Knowing how important the first dance is for every bride, Joey and his friends designed a special harness that would allow for him to stand up from his wheelchair and sway as if he were dancing. For months, he planned and practiced, unbeknownst to his future bride.
In the video below, watch the moment Michelle walks into the wedding reception and realizes what Joey has done. As soon as she sees Joey standing, supported by his military groomsman, the excitement on her face quickly turns to tears.
