An 18-year-old Miami woman named Penelope Soto found herself in very hot water when she decided to mouth-off to a judge during her sentencing. It seemed she found her bond hearing amusing after being charged with possession of prescription pills.
You'd think Soto would want to be on the judge's good side, but instead she laughed at his questions, ignored his requests and shouted "Adios!" as she went to leave her sentencing.
The judge, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Jorge Rodriguez-Chomat, found Soto's behavior so unacceptable that he upped her bail from $5000 to $10,000.
This was enough for her to give him the middle finger and mutter "F*** you" as she walked away. Are you kidding me?!
That's when the judge called her right back to the podium, finding her in criminal contempt. He sentenced her to 30 days in jail and increased her fine. Talk about a rude awakening!
In an interesting turn of events, Soto tearfully apologized to the judge and admitted she was under the influence during the hearing. He dropped her contempt of court charges and vacated her 30-day jail term.
