People are mad at The Kelly Family because they changed their toddler's shoes to make him tall enough for the rides at Disney. Parents are giving the family backlash for breaking safety measures and making a "dangerous" decision.
The Kelly Family posted a video on TikTok on February 10, where the father describes the son as a “thrill-seeking boy who can’t get enough of Disney theme park rides.”
The dad continues to explain that the “only problem” is that his son isn’t tall enough for the big rides yet.
The clip then shows the Kelly Family parents customizing a pair of children’s shoes with “extra flip flop bottoms” and a “towering heel” to boost their son’s height, allowing him to meet height requirements for certain Disney rides and tricking Disney workers.
The video has reached over 367,000 views as of Tuesday, and backlash has grown quickly, with Disney cast members and parents putting the Kelly Family on blast.
One TikTok influencer said the requirements aren't there for funsies; they're there to keep children safe.
The Kelly Family has 1.2 million followers, so their decision to share ways to circumvent safety measures at Disney reached a large number of people. Only a few days later, the dad released this video to explain the situation.
The Kelly Family’s father responded to the backlash in the video, saying he would "never put his kids in actual danger."
However, his tone seems to have changed in his latest apology video, where he takes more accountability for the decision after backlash has continued.
