Cal-Waste, the recycling facility in California, seems to be having a moment! First, a kind employee managed to find a woman's lost wedding ring in a pile of trash three feet high, and now another employee has made a startling discovery! This time, it's more than a lost object: it's a precious new life.
Tony Miranda was going about his regular duties, sorting the recycling on the conveyor belt — which doesn't travel slowly. But when he glanced up, he saw something that didn't belong on the conveyor belt — something small and furry.
When it came closer into view, he realized what it was: a tiny newborn kitten.
Tony grabbed the kitten in the nick of time, too: if he hadn't, the helpless animal would have made its way through spinning blades and into the trash compactor, and surely would not have survived.
Other employees say that it's a miracle the newborn was able to survive the journey onto the conveyor in the first place: it's assumed that the kitten was in a garbage truck, which dumped its trash — and the kitten — at the facility onto two other conveyor belts before Tony spotted her.
Shift supervisor Heather Garcia instantly became attached to the kitten, and decided to give her a warm home. Now named Murphy, the kitten has been given a clean bill of health by a veterinarian!
