Gymnast Konnor McClain was recently on the Today show alongside fellow gymnasts Jordan Chiles and Shilese Jones to talk about her goal of competing in the Olympics in 2024.
This is not a new goal. In 2016, Konnor was on Steve Harvey’s talent show, Little Big Shots. She was 11 years old at the time, but she told Steve that she planned on making it to the Olympic Games in 2024. She even mentioned that she would “win the all-around gold medal.”
Jordan Chiles, Shilese Jones, and Konnor McClain made history in 2022 when they became the first Black women to earn all three spots on the podium at the US Gymnastics Championships.
Although she won’t know if she qualifies for the Olympics until next June, Konnor, now 18, spoke with hope and enthusiasm like she did seven years prior.
“Oh my gosh, it feels like I’m almost there,” she said on the Today show. “I’ve been training 17 years for this. I said on the Steve Harvey show that I wanted to be here, and I’m one year away, so I’m excited.”
