‘Laverne & Shirley’ Celebrate Christmas With This Silly Song And Dance From 1976

Growing up, I was always told that I had been born in the wrong decade. In high school, my walls weren't plastered with photos of the latest boy bands filling up teen magazines. Instead, my bedroom was reserved for paying homage to The Beatles and The Monkees and I much preferred tuning into TV Land rather than MTV.

If it was made between 1950 and 1980, I was a fan — especially when it came to the funny ladies of Laverne & Shirley. The Happy Days spin-off had the same double-dose of vintage goodness with their 1970s interpretation of 1950s nostalgia, but this time with an extra dash of girl power to go with it! They had lots of hilarious bumps in the road, but nothing ever got these quirky girls to feel down on their luck. Not when they had each other (and their odd neighbors, Lenny and Squiggy) to lean on. I can still sing the theme song from memory, and I am tempted to pretty much anytime I hear someone start counting, "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8…"

Despite their best efforts, however, the main characters didn't quite have the chops for a life as musical entertainers. They made plenty of amusing attempts, of course, like in this early Christmas episode. Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams take their roles center stage for a rendition of "Winter Wonderland," and even though it's not quite on key and their steps are slightly offbeat, you can't help but feel the festive spirit with every note. That finale is certainly impressive on its own!
