Stacey Heyward had just lost everything in a house fire and didn't think she'd be able to give her Christmas a happy holiday. She'd had items on layaway at a Kmart in the Bronx, New York and was hoping to buy some of the gifts (at least!) Then, a stranger tapped her on the shoulder.
Lee Karchawer, founder of "Pay Away The Layaway," approached her and told her that he would pay off her layaway plan. She was in shock at the kind gesture and broke down in tears.
"This couldn't have come at a better time," she cried.
The "layaway angels" are motivated by the spirit of the season and go to stores during the holidays and pay off the layaway plans of unsuspecting customers.
