Los Angeles meteorologist Liberte Chan was delivering the morning weather report one day, when suddenly the morning news anchor, Chris Burrous, interrupted her.
"What's going on?" she asked. All that was visible was Chris' arm… and it was holding a cardigan.
"'You want me to put this on? Why? 'Cause it's cold?" she asked.
"We're getting a lot of emails," he responded. "Everyone's got an opinion on your dress this morning."
Liberte put on the cardigan, although she was clearly confused. As it turns out, many viewers were writing in because her dress was "too revealing." Some said she looked like a "stripper," others claimed she looked like she was "still drunk" from the previous night.
Liberte and Chris joked that she now looked like a librarian going to a cocktail party. However, if just as many viewers thought the dress was too much, others thought forcing her to cover up was sexist.
Viewers couldn't help but recall another segment on the same news channel where a male meteorologist brought out two models in far more revealing lingerie to "help" him read the forecast. There were no complaints that day.
"Too matronly, too much cleavage, too manly, too casual, too formal," one user wrote. "Too MUCH BODY SHAMING."
"Her dress was fine," another said. "If I was her, I would have walked off on air."
Liberte said the black dress was her "backup," because another one wasn't reading well on the green screen. Ultimately, she hopes that people will judge her performance as a meteorologist and not her appearance. What do you think?
