By now, most of the country has heard about a bright young playwright named Lin-Manuel Miranda. The writer and performer has made a name for himself after winning a Grammy this year for his work as the eponymous lead in Hamilton. The Broadway show follows the bittersweet life of America's "$10 founding father," Alexander Hamilton. With a diverse cast of actors filling in the roles and rapping their way through the Revolutionary War, I'll admit that it sounded a bit odd when I first heard about it. Of course, after finally giving the show's album a good listen, I'm obsessed!
But before the mega-hit made its way to the Richard Rogers theater, Miranda got started with his first Broadway play, In The Heights, in 2008. Even after nabbing the Tony for Best Original Score, he was still relatively unknown outside of the musical world when he married his high school sweetheart, Vanessa Nadal, two years later in 2010. However, that didn't stop him from celebrating their union with yet another amazing performance! While sitting at their table, she is clearly shocked when her father pauses his toast to call Miranda up to the dance floor with him.
The two men are soon joined by Miranda's groomswoman and men as they serenade Nadal with "L'Chaim," a joyous tune from another Broadway favorite, Fiddler On The Roof. You can see his excitement every time he shouts "my wife!" and beams back at Nadal. As he notes, "everyone in this video has one thing in common: We'd do anything to show Vanessa how much we love her."
