The wild has always been known for its uncaring cruelty, but it's always been difficult for me to stand back and let nature take its course. Whether it be a baby bird on the ground in need of assistance or a worm on the sidewalk, I've always had a tendency for stepping in and saving any animal I can.
So watching this video, in which a litter of adorable lion cubs was being introduced to its pride, really got me nervous. In the wild if a male lion doesn't recognize the cubs, they're known for killing them instantly. Or even if an outsider alpha lion tries to take over the pride, they've been observed killing the babies in order to eliminate any competition.
So when these adorable little babies walked up to their father, I have to admit I held my breath. At the 2:08 mark I paused the video, unsure of what was to come. Lions are huge and powerful animals, so if it came to a fight, these little cubs wouldn't stand a chance. As cute as Simba and Mufasa were together in The Lion King, I have to admit I was frozen in utter terror!
It took me a while, but I finally pressed play and kept watching, and lets just say that this wonderful PBS documentary about the African wilderness is certainly worth the watch!
What about you? Were you terrified of the huge lion as well? I've never had such an odd combination of emotions before!
