Lisa Marie Presley Lived In ‘Horrific Reality’ After Son’s 2020 Death By Suicide

Lisa Marie Presley died this week after going into cardiac arrest. She was just 54.

Lisa Marie's untimely death is incredibly shocking and deeply sad, but now we're learning more about how broken she was since her son's 2020 death. It seemed that she was barely hanging on.

The singer-songwriter and only child of Elvis and Priscilla Presley felt that being a mother was her absolute calling. She called her children — daughter Riley, son Benjamin, and twin daughters Finley and Harper — her "cubs." So when Benjamin died by suicide in 2020, it ripped Presley wide open. She would never recover.

Lisa Marie shared her grief with the world. In her last Instagram post, she told followers of an essay she wrote for National Grief Awareness Day. Her essay was as touching as it was devastating. She wrote that she had “been living in the horrific reality of [grief’s] unrelenting grips since my son’s death two years ago” and went on to share her thoughts about grief and loss.

She continued, "Death is part of life whether we like it or not — and so is grieving.

"There is so much to learn and understand on the subject, but here’s what I know so far: One is that grief does not stop or go away in any sense, a year, or years after the loss.

"You do not ‘get over it,’ you do not ‘move on,’ period."
