Most artists want to stand out from the crowd, but Liu Bolin's claim to fame is his ability to blend in. The 43-year-old Chinese painter has made a name for himself with his ability to become virtually invisible, painting his body and clothes with such precision and detail that he is barely distinguishable from his surroundings. It sounds impossible at first, but once you see his work, you'll wonder if your eyes are playing tricks on you.
While Bolin's form of art is certainly unique, he's not the only person to have practice this technique. This model stripped down and covered her entire body with paint to blend into the beautiful autumn foliage around her, but I have to say, I think Bolin's camouflage is even better! What's even more impressive is just how many times this artist has decorated himself to become one with his surroundings. All the planning and painting that goes into each performance takes a lot of time and effort; he can't just change his whole appearance in seconds like this mind-blowing octopus can!
To see Bolin's magical work for yourself, check out the photos of some of his most memorable transformations. I thought I had pretty good eyesight, but I really had to squint to find him in some of these images. This guy is a master of hiding in plain sight!

Here, maybe this one will be a bit easier.

If you had a hard time, it's not your fault. Chinese artist Liu Bolin is simply a master of self-camouflage.

Bolin has spent more than 10 years using paint to blend in with his surroundings.

But he doesn't just do it for fun.

Instead, his work is intended to send a message about issues both China and the rest of the world are facing.

This piece draws attention to the terrible practice of killing sharks for their fins.

Recent years have seen him incorporating multiple people into his work. How many can you find in this image?

His attention to detail is truly incredible.

You can barely see the difference between human and background until you get up close.

There is no challenge too great for this talented artist.

He's painted himself into the London subway...

...to the Great Wall of China (or a picture of it, anyway).

There's no telling where we'll see this disappearing artist next.

But realistically, it's more likely that we won't see him at all.
