Have you ever dropped your phone from somewhere really, really high up?
I have. I was leaning over a balcony in a mall and accidentally dropped my phone three stories. It felt like my phone fell for 10 minutes before it finally hit the ground.
My phone was obviously broken, but imagine dropping your phone from a height, watching it hit the ground, and realizing it still works?
That's what happened to Liz Bertorelli — except she couldn't get her phone back.
Liz dropped her phone off the balcony of her apartment onto her neighbors' balcony below. But her neighbors weren't home to help her out.
What happened next is one of the most epic stories of determination I've ever read.

Meet Liz. She lives in Toronto and recently found herself in a bit of a pickle.

On Tuesday night, Liz shared on Twitter (via computer) that she had accidentally dropped her phone from her balcony and down onto the apartment below. The phone was still working; she could see it lighting up.

Liz went downstairs to knock on the door and ask for her phone back, but no one was home at the apartment below. Unable to contact her neighbors any other way, Liz wrote some notes for her neighbors and dropped them onto the table on their balcony, hoping they'd find them when they got home.

But then, strong winds blew Liz's note off the table and, eventually, off the balcony.

Liz kept her followers updated by taking pictures with her camera and tweeting from her laptop. She headed off to work the next day without her phone.

But while Liz was at work, things took a turn for the worse. It started to rain, and Liz's phone was exposed to the elements.

When Liz got home, she tied a plastic bag onto a piece of string and lowered it down to cover her phone, hoping that would protect it from any more water damage.

The next day, when the sun was out, Liz tried everything she could to get her phone back.

Finally, Liz and a friend took apart her drone to make "a rescue device." It basically involved a lot of tape.

Liz recorded the harrowing rescue process. Her MacGyver-esque contraption worked! Not only did Liz finally get her phone back, but it even turned on despite all it'd been through.

Liz and her phone are now reunited! I have to say, I really admire her dedication. I have no idea what I would have done if I found myself in her situation.
Liz still hasn't heard from her neighbors, but says she hopes they're doing well, "wherever they are."
