She Helps The Homeless Every Day. Then She’s Handed A Piece Of Paper That Changes Everything

Philadelphia native Lolly Galvin knows that small acts of kindness can go a long way to help others, and she's on a mission to make a difference in the city’s homeless community — one person at a time.

As the founder of Dignity Project, she delivers Dignity Bags full of toiletries and necessities to homeless individuals living on the streets.

Galvin’s mission is simple, but its impact has gone way beyond what she expected.

After packing up her Dignity Bags, Galvin and a hairstylist hit the streets to offer food, water, and haircuts to Philadelphia's homeless. What makes her efforts so different than most is that she interacts with each homeless person and really gets to know them, with some meetings lasting up to an hour long!

"I once heard a statistic that a homeless person only hears their name once every three months," Galvin said. "I think it's people are tired and burned-out, and don't have as much time. I'm trying to prove the world is good, and you just have to look a little bit deeper."

She hopes her efforts inspire others to pay it forward and give back to their communities with random acts of kindness.

"We can do so many things for each other. Not even because we can, but because we should," she said.

As a part of TD Bank's #TDThanksYou campaign, they're thanking their millions of customers by creating TD Thank Accounts. After hearing about Galvin's inspiring story, they surprised her with a monetary gift as a thank you for her contributions to the community.
