Theresa and Larry Caputo won't live happily ever after, after all. After 28 years of marriage, the Long Island Medium stars confirmed their separation last year. They've now officially moved on to divorce proceedings, TMZ reports.
"The separation was a three-month trial period, and we've moved on from that point," Larry told TMZ. "We're in divorce proceedings, so that's been going on for the past six months. It's not finalized. I don't know when it will be, but that's where we're at."
The couple opened up about their marriage troubles in recent episodes of Long Island Medium. The season finale of the TLC series featured both Theresa and Larry sharing where things went wrong.
But don't shed too many tears for the end of this love story. Larry says everything is going well for both of them despite the divorce.
"I'm doing fine," Larry said. "I know she's doing well. I'm happy. We've moved on with our lives."
Back in December, the couple released a joint statement announcing their breakup.
"After 28 years of marriage, we have decided to legally separate. We will always love each other and our two wonderful children," the statement read. "We are united in supporting each other and our family. Please respect our privacy during this time."
On the season 11 finale, Larry explained that the two had drifted apart.
"I think a lot of the frustration has to do with us not spending the time together anymore. Along with that comes the lack of communication, so it’s like losing your best friend. It’s hard," Larry told a friend.
Their love story extends far beyond reality TV. Theresa first met Larry at an oil company where they both worked, two years after a psychic predicted that she'd meet someone with a beard and mustache.
"We were like inseparable. We worked together, we went to lunch together, and one day, I was taking you out to lunch and I just said to you, 'Is it okay if I kiss you?'" Larry reminisced.
"Larry and I dated for two years, then we got engaged," Theresa said.
The couple has two children together: Larry Caputo Jr. and Victoria Caputo.
They've appeared on Long Island Medium together since 2011.
On their 25th wedding anniversary, the Caputos renewed their vows. But somewhere along the way, things went awry.
"The tension was so bad here in the house, and it's something that happened over time. It's nothing that happened overnight," Theresa said on an episode of the show.
"We’ve been there for each other through thick and thin. You know, good times, and right now are not so great times. I don’t understand it," Theresa said. "I mean, I lay in my bed and I say to myself, ‘How did this happen? How did I get here?'"
"I’ve changed, and he has changed. We’re both not happy, and, you know, it’s hard to try to work through that."
The couple decided to temporarily separate at the recommendation of a couples therapist.
Though they were hesitant at first, the trial separation led to a decision to officially call it quits.
Though the divorce isn't final yet, they now live on opposite coasts.
Both ex-lovebirds are keeping busy in the aftermath of the separation.

While Larry told TMZ that he's already seeing someone new.
"I'm fortunate enough to say I have met someone special, but I'll just leave it at that for now," he said.
