This famous vintage commercial is guaranteed to send shockwaves of nostalgia up and down your memory! The catchy song, "Look for the Union Label," was actually a part of a contest in which the International Ladies' Garment Workers' Union asked its members to write the lyrics to a song that could help raise awareness of buying American-made products.
Even back in the early 1970s outsourcing American jobs was becoming a bigger and bigger problem for normal Americans like you and me. More and more Americans were losing their jobs as more companies began to set up shop in countries that didn't have minimum wages.
So the Union sent out a plea to their American citizens to do their best to buy American made products when and if they could afford them. American products are a bit more expensive, but when you compare the quality between the two options, it's no contest!
As the years went by the union eventually joined with bigger unions, they never managed to beat back other companies who went overseas. Back in the day when you could support a whole family with just one person working, things certainly have changed a lot, haven't they?
