Do you know what the inside of a kangaroo pouch looks like? One adventurous man set out to discover the truth, and the results are way more fascinating than you'd think.
Chris, the owner of Science Alert, flew Destin (of YouTube channel Smarter Every Day) and his wife to Australia for National Science Week. Their mission? To give viewers a rare glimpse into the wacky, wonderful world of kangaroos. After learning some… ahem, "interesting" facts about male kangaroo genitalia from a local Aussie, Destin headed to a kangaroo orphanage where he met a kindhearted couple dedicated to raising baby kangaroos who need their mothers' pouches, but don't have mothers.
The female kangaroo has four nipples inside her pouch to which the baby firmly attaches itself. The pouch opening is not 'open' like a pocket, as many people assume, but more like an external womb of sorts.
Do you find this video entertaining and educational, too?! I was surprised to see these animals so docile — unlike the aggressive "boxing" kangaroos the internet is used to seeing.
