In the process of moving, it's normal to throw things away or give old and unwanted belongings to charity. Anything from pieces of furniture to toys to clothes is fair game. Moving definitely helps you clean out the clutter in your life!
But one must be careful of what goes in the trash. One couple found out the hard way after accidentally giving away an old hoodie as a donation.
Martha and Clinton Lemaster of West Virginia had forgotten that they’d hidden $3,5o0 in cash (along with their wedding rings) in the sweater. They knew strangers and realtors would be entering their home, so they wanted to hide their valuables where no one would find them.
They hid them so well that they outsmarted themselves!
In a panic, they called Robert Goode, the president of MAC Recycling. He kindly offered to help them, and the search was soon underway for the lost wedding rings and cash.
He warned them that the chances of finding the valuables were slim to none, even though the money was for the down payment on their new home.
When Robert couldn't find what the couple was looking for, Clinton drove to the Maryland plant to search for his belongings himself — and that's when the tide turned.
