Mega retailer Macy's has joined the 15 Percent Pledge and will dedicate at least 15% of its shelf space to products from Black-owned businesses and labels. The pledge is part of a nonprofit founded by Aurora James, the designer behind Brother Vellies.
Aurora announced the move by Macy's on her Instagram feed, writing that "Their bold commitment to hit 15% across all categories and support Black owned businesses across this country is monumental. This Pledge represents billions of dollars being allocated to support Black businesses, Black people and Black communities. I could not be more proud of the brilliant team at Macy's and the work we have all done over the past few months and will continue to do in the coming years."
Aurora continued, "There is a difference between those who commit and those who curtail and Black people in this Country deserve commitments. Thank You! Onward and upward, it's time to celebrate!"
Macy's is currently hosting its annual Friends & Family Sale, which will end on December 10. You can snag an extra 30% off regular and clearance-priced items with the code FRIEND.
